Chalk Art

Chalk Art

I teach classes through Harlan School of Fine Art after school and in the summers. This year I got to teach Chalk Art!

It was SO much fun. I really enjoyed getting to learn a new craft and teaching my students how to do it.

We studied various chalk artists and looked at the New Haven Chalk Festival. We played around with opitical illusions, interactive chalk art and all the different chalk techniques.

These are all the demos I did for my classes.

Ah yes, I have finally broken. The students have gotten to me. I have a TikTok. I'm enjoying yet another avenue to create things.  Here is another whiteboard artwork. This one was for October 2020. It was nice to be able to make another illustration for the kids. I've...

This was actually one of the very first drawings in the book. I believe it was drawn on a random sheet of paper at a bar I used to frequent in Manhattan. It's a neat little karaoke bar called Iggy's. I spent more time there then I should have, honestly. I used to go...

I mentioned before some of the pages in this book are topical. I create them as I am inspired. Often, more often now than before, I am inspired by current events. Inspiration can come from all emotions. This one came from sadness, worry and horror. This page was...

This one has a sweet story. Every year for our anniversary I make a clay heart (pictured below). All year we fill it with little pieces of paper that we scribbled reasons we love each other, love notes, and memories. On our anniversary, before I present John Jack with...

The Women's March. I've done a post on the Women's March already, which you can find here. John Jack and I attended the march in Nola, and I am currently helping organize a Science march in Baton Rouge. This page was inspired by the signs I saw at the Women's March...

"Her name is Cherry. We just met, and already she knows me better than you." That is the opening line from one of my favorite Amy Winehouse songs, and the inspiration for this drawing. The middle piece is a colored pencil drawing of a guitar, Amy is also done in...

Page 9 of the Collage Sketchbook. This one is pretty nostalgic. Plus there are some pretty cool textures with real history. The caricature of the very depressed looking girl is my best friend in the entire world. I drew this in high school when we where all edgy and...

Page 9 of the Collage Sketchbook. I own a design and t-shirt company, Avery Paige Designs. We also make vinyl stickers. Sometimes I save the weird bits of sticker vinyl that's left over. Do you want to know where these bits came from? The Emblem of the Galactic Empire...

Collage Sketchbook: Page 8

This page was inspired by a photographer I found on tumblr, Angélica Dass. She matches the skin tones of her subjects with a corresponding Pantone color. I started to draw her portraits as an exercise in another sketchbook and on loose sheets of paper. I wanted to...

Collage Sketchbook: Page 7

I did this page while I was practicing hands in November of 2015. While doing the hands practice project I drew A LOT of hands. Not all of them made it into the final post. Most of them I did digitally, but some where drawn by hand (haha). These two where drawn on...
